Fragments of lost time are gathered together in Yates!”searching exhibition - In search of lost time – Remembrance of things past.

À la recherche du temps perdu.

Disparate folk residing in resin, dominate a timeline determined by Daguerre and Fox Talbot!s dual singularity. Anonymous ghosts paying homage to purpose, are recast as heroes and heroines in paint, tar and calamine lotion. The obscure and obtuse appear sharp and relevant when filtered through the prism of Yates!”séance.

Appropriating the lost and forgotten; casualties of the callous aperture, Yates renders them opulent, restoring grandeur.

An outsider on a mission to release the imprisoned, Yates disrupts, taking on the mantle of the fictional Travis Bickle, but resides even more closely in the realm of the great romantic portraitist, Singer Sargent or Whistler, a painter of society, albeit a dead, displaced and dysfunctional one.

The bizarre and the quirky citizens of some long-neglected contemplation are defrosted, their gaze returns to question the observer, the why and the wherefore of their rendering.

But in reimagining the negative, Yates lavishes time on the subject, constructing a patina of attention and respect, a palimpsest of love and regard.

The images en masse collaborate and breath, Time!s arrow is reversed. These ghosts were never lost, just unexposed.
